Organization Background
African Humanitarian Corps (AHC) is a community-based non-profit organization that was formed in 2015 by indigenous communities in South Sudan as a means to champion emergency humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable individuals, sustainable recovery, and development efforts in the midst of protracted conflicts and natural disasters. It acquired legal status in April 2016 and was incorporated as a National Non-Government Organization (NNGO) with its Constitution. The organization is run by competent staff members under the stewardship of the Board of Directors. The Board meets every six months primarily focusing on high-level organizational strategy, senior team oversite, and accountability in the execution of the AHC mandate.
Currently, the NGO is implementing social development and humanitarian programs in South Sudan in collaboration with UN Agencies, bilateral donors, international relief organizations and relevant State Ministries. Our activities are geared towards reducing the suffering of the most vulnerable groups through implementing programs and projects that help the affected communities by natural disasters, conflicts and war to recover and improve. We collaborate with partners/donors’ organizations to design and implement development programs and deliver essential social services.
Purpose
As indigenous professionals on humanitarian sectors and capacity buildings, the founders of the organization felt that there was an argent need for interventions and they had the ability to access the grass roots and act as a bridge between the suffering and desperate local communities and the UN agencies, international organizations, well-wishers and charities that are willing to help the South Sudanese. This was the philosophy behind the establishment of AHC South Sudan.

To strengthen the organizational policies (operational and programmes) of African Humanitarian Corps to effectively carry out its mandate to achieve its vision, we have developed a programme operations and procedures manual to guides us through our daily operations and programmes.
African Humanitarian Corps envisions building the capacity of the communities and enhancing participatory and sustainable development by promoting self-reliance and appropriate interventions.
